Terri Schiavo Day

March 31st marks the horrific 7th anniversary of the death of Terri Schiavo from starvation and dehydration.  I have heard Bobby Schindler, Terri's brother, speak about all he is currently doing (amazing stuff).  Ever since I worked in a nursing home and ever since I heard Bobby beg us future medical professionals to protect the weak, I have sought to stand for life from womb to tomb.

Terri did not need to die and she brought joy to many and had family that loved her.  Our nation has blood on their hands and not just from Terri.  There are many like her with no one to say, "Actually, we protect the weak among us."  The medical community loves to say that she was just a "human vegetable," that she was "worthless," that she was "a drag on the system," and that she was "brain dead."  All of these things don't uphold the fundamental truth: people are priceless.  And they deny facts about her case.  Terri, up to her final days, was very much a giving human being.  And so many would have loved to keep taking care of her because her life was beautiful.

So today, I run hard for the Terris who are being forgotten in rehab facilities today; I run against the reprehensible idea that people have a price tag.  And I run in joy because all of these disabled and so-called "brain-dead" humans will be running and laughing and talking in heaven.  Take that, all-knowing medical community.

Terri, your life and death were not worthless and may God be with your family today, especially your amazing brother Bob.
